Four Families On A Mission
Our story
Our small team was brought together by a shared passion for helping others. We aim to fill the gaps for caregivers in need, recognizing that caregivers come in many forms and from diverse backgrounds. They include parents caring for children or adults with special needs, adult children supporting aging parents, spouses who find themselves in caregiving roles, and siblings or family members stepping in when no one else can.
All of these unsung heroes deserve support, regardless of their loved one’s diagnosis. Beyond the Chromosome exists to uplift these families by building a strong network of care, partnering with existing community resources while stepping up to fill the gaps where additional help is needed.
Our Mission
Beyond the Chromosome empowers families of individuals with Down syndrome and others from vulnerable or underserved communities by fostering a compassionate and connected support network. We provide emergency assistance, promote social inclusion, offer educational resources, and advocate for special education classrooms. Inspired by our own children, we are committed to enhancing the lives of all individuals with unique needs through community-driven collaboration and care.

Meet The Team
President- Kerry Branch
Vice Precident - Bryan Baker - I have been married for 19 years. I am a proud father of a wonderful daughter and 2 sons who have earned their wings. I am a Navy veteran. This sent me all over the world and taught me how to have confidence in myself and lead honorably. I spent time coaching adults at the Miracle League to play baseball. I spent time serving in the Lions Club as a VP. I spent 12 years as president of the Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society. My wife and kids have inspired me to make my community a better place for all.
Treasurer- Andrea Robinson
Secretary, Executive Director - Sandra Maldonado - I bring over 12 years of experience in the nonprofit world, serving in various leadership roles including event coordinator, president, and advocate. My passion for community and inclusion has been the driving force behind my work, both professionally and personally. As the Executive Director and Secretary of Beyond the Chromosomes, I am dedicated to creating a network of support for caregivers and families within the special needs community.
Inspired by my son, Jeremiah, I also founded A Little Xtra LLC, a family business that celebrates creativity, purpose, and ability. I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management at Southern New Hampshire University, continuing my lifelong commitment to learning and service. I believes in leading with compassion, connection, and the belief that every family deserves support beyond the diagnosis.
